Fall Favorites
October is possibly my most favorite month of all.
1) Warmish weather turns to cooler temps.
2) Pumpkins – Pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin roll (I could go on and on), pumpkin farms and pumpkin carving.
3) Apples – Applesauce, apple pie, apple bread, apple tarts, apple cobbler (again….do we see a trend here?).
4) Boots
5) Fall Festivals
6) Costumes and Trick or Treating
7) Homecoming
8) Soup
9) Fall Leaves
10) Fires
October – I love everything about it. Today we are going to the pumpkin farm and then I want to pick up some apples from a local apple orchard. Once we get those home I plan on making homemade crockpot applesauce and maybe even a cobbler. If you haven’t tried making your own applesauce it’s so easy and delicious. Here’s the recipe we’ve been using. Both kids love it!
Crockpot Applesauce
10 large apples – peeled, cored and cut into chunks
1/2 cup of water
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 – 1 cup of sugar (we use less than 1/2 cup)
Put everything in your crockpot and cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low 8-9 hours. Once done, mash to desired consistency. Serve warm or cold.
Enjoy!
